Book Reviews

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Cath and Wren are twins leaving home to start college in a new city. They are big Simon Snow fans and have been writing fan fiction about the magical world of Simon and the Mages for years. The sisters slowly drift apart as they explore and experience college life on their own, leaving Cath feeling like the lost and abandoned twin. Without trying, she meets new and strange people who challenge her to come out of her shell, and eventually make her realize that there’s more to life than Simon Snow.

The book can stand alone without all the Simon Snow fan fic snippets in every chapter, that’s the good thing. The bad thing is I skipped through most of the Simon Snow and Baz parts because they did not interest me enough. Sorry!

Anyway, Rainbow Rowell did it again, giving us another quirky couple to love: Cath and Levi. There’s just something about how Rainbow concocts love stories and writes dialogue between the guy and the girl that makes butterflies in your tummy start fluttering around, without sounding cheesy or barfy. I love her. Love her. LOVE HER!
