The Ocean At The End Of The Lane by Neil Gaiman

It’s a really scary bedtime story, with magical ponds that are really oceans, eleven-year-old farm girls who are really much, much older than they look, and grandmothers who have witnessed the birth of the moon.

Scary monsters in the closet are actually beautiful babysitters with grey eyes who can read your thoughts and appear right in front of you in a blink of an eye, and there is no way to run away from them because they have lodged themselves so deep in your body by the wormhole they drilled on your foot.

I loved it.
